Healthy diet is a key to a healthy life. Healthy diet is a must for all, pregnant women in particular. So if you have any expecting mother see that the members of family and your cook have a clear knowledge about pregnancy diets.

A pregnant women should take care of herself and specially her diets since if she is devoid of proper nutrition the child may suffer from malnutrition and even develop certain birth defects. The would be mother should consult a physician if she is not very clear about the type of food that she must intake during this month. See that your menu has a lot of fresh green vegetables and fruits so that your child derives a lot of nutrients.

Also be careful about the amount of food that you must have at this time. Some people may advise you to have food for two during pregnancy. But you don't need to put on extra calory at least for the first six months of pregnancy. An average pregnant women require only 200 extra calory each day in the last three months. The would be mother should not worry about her appetite and must have the meal when she is hungry.



Nutrition during pregnancy

An expecting mother should have balanced pregnancy diets at this time. Have a lot of milk products like skimmed milk, butter milk, yogurt and cottage cheese. All these dairy products contain lot of calcium along with Vitamin B-12 and amino acid that are required during this period. Fresh and seasonals are must during pregnancy. See that you have fishes, meats or egg everyday or at least quite frequent. Cereals, pulses and whole grains should be included in pregnancy diets. Have a lot of water and juice so that you do not suffer from dehydration.

Food that must be avoided during pregnancy

Try to avoid ghee, butter or coconut milk which contain high saturated fats. Dont cook your food with dalda or vanaspati which is harmful for both mother and child. Be careful while buying fishes. Shark, predator fishes, sword fishes must be avoided since they are kept in contamination with mercury. Avoid canned fish, raw seafood during pregnancy. See that the fishes and meat you have during pregnancy are properly cooked. Avoid peanuts if you have asthma, hayfever or eczema.

So take care of the nutrition of pregnant mothers and focus on their diets or they may give birth to defective mothers. An overall knowledge of pregnancy diets will help you make a proper health plan for the pregnant women.
