One of the natural causes in the woman's body that disrupts the formation of the fetus, resulting in stillbirth, is in the common man's dictionary, termed as Miscarriage. One of the most undesired and unfortunate calamity that can strike an expecting mother, there could be several reasons behind a miscarriage. A miscarriage which is also known as spontaneous abortion is the condition whereby any pregnancy is suddenly cut short, resulting in the death of the fetus. This condition can happen at any phase of pregnancy, stealthily terminating the life of the growing fetus. However, medical surveys show that miscarriage is more common during the primal stages of a woman's pregnancy and earnest care needs to be adopted especially till the first five months. In the medical terminology, miscarriage is better known as abortion.
Types of miscarriage: Medically there could be many types of miscarriage. One of them, is inevitable miscarriage where the woman experiences vaginal bleeding along with unfolding of the cervical OS. In such a situation, vaginal bleeding could be both heavy or even light with spotting, coupled with the dilation of the mouth of the womb.
In the extreme cases, the bleeding can be severe, with grueling abdominal pain and cramping. It has been seen that, inevitable miscarriage generally happens within the first 4 months of a woman's pregnancy. Another form of miscarriage is incomplete miscarriage, whereby the expulsion is partial. In such a case, some important products of conception are expelled abnormally, generally before the twentieth week of the woman's pregnancy. In incomplete miscarriage, the bleeding is heavier, and abdominal pain is almost always constant. Complete miscarriage is another form of natural abortion, where there is a complete expulsion of all products of conception from the womb including fetus and placental tissues. The woman experiences heavy bleeding, pain and cramps in the abdomen, as the placental tissues are discarded.
Causes of miscarriage: Although there could be so many reasons for miscarriage, there are also women for whom abortion could happen naturally. Some of the reasons behind miscarriage are infections like German measles, CMV or cytomegalovirus, mycoplasma resulting in pneumonia, abnormal womb, fibroids, poor muscle tone in the mouth of the womb, abnormal growth of the placenta etc. Apart from these, there could be other factors as well like consumption of caffeine, alcohol or nicotine during pregnancy, sexual intercourse during the first trimester, unsafe traveling, too much of stress just to name some.
Any kind of miscarriage might be detrimental for the mother's health, so rush to the doctor for medical intervention. Scroll through the links in medicarehub.com, to know about the latest updates on pregnancy.
