Abortion

The medical term used for miscarriage, Abortion is the sudden termination of the fetus inside the mother's womb. Abortion could be both natural and forced. In case, the abortion is medically induced, there is a particular time as to when it should be performed on the woman's body. However, abortion is most undesired when it happens normally, seizing the life of the offspring thriving in the mother's womb. spontaneous abortion is the condition whereby any pregnancy is suddenly cut short, resulting in the death of the fetus. This condition can happen at any phase of pregnancy, stealthily terminating the life of the growing fetus. However, medical surveys show that miscarriage is more common during the primal stages of a woman's pregnancy and earnest care needs to be adopted especially till the first five months. In the layman's terminology, abortion is better known as miscarriage.

Causes of abortion: Although there could be so many reasons for an abortion, there are also women for whom abortion could happen naturally. Some of the reasons behind miscarriage are infections like German measles, CMV or cytomegalovirus, mycoplasma resulting in pneumonia, abnormal womb, fibroids, poor muscle tone in the mouth of the womb, abnormal growth of the placenta etc.

Apart from these, there could be other factors as well like consumption of caffeine, alcohol or nicotine during pregnancy, sexual intercourse during the first trimester, unsafe traveling, too much of stress just to name some. However, in case gynecologists detect some kind of deformities in the growing offspring, abortion is advised for the pregnant woman. It is true that, even today there is a lot of stigma attached to voluntary abortion. However, it is rather advisable to go for an abortion rather than have a deformed child, especially common in tubal pregnancy.

Symptoms of abortion: Whatever the form of abortion is, incomplete, inevitable or complete, in all cases the woman is most likely to experience a cramp in the abdomen, lower areas of the back coupled with a grueling pain. The other symptom of abortion is very heavy bleeding and dilation of the cervical OS. Vaginal bleeding could be both heavy or even light with spotting.

Treatment of abortion: There are no medical ways to prevent abortion. Since, such a case is detrimental for the mother's health, at times even becoming fatal, medical intervention is absolutely required. In case of both incomplete and complete abortion, surgery is required to expel the dead fetus from the womb.
