Medical Transcription

Medical transcription is also known as MT. This is a confederate health profession which comprehends the process of conversion or transcription of the voice-recorded reports exactly as prescribed by physicians or various other healthcare professionals in a text format. The evolution of medical transcription dates back to the 1960s. The systems were configured to help in the process of manufacturing. The first medical transcription which was formulated in this process is MRP or Medical Resource Planning in 1975. This development is followed by another innovative version known as, MRP2 which is the descriptor for Manufacturing Resource planning. None of these brought about the welfare of Medical Transcription.

There is a great change in the transcription equipments from manual typewriters to a number of advanced word processors, electric typewriters and computers. Plastic disks are changed to magnetic belts and then to cassettes and digital recordings to endless loops. The voice recognition system in the world today is more and more employed, with correctionists or medical transcriptionists offering additional editorial services, even if there are some cases where voice recognition systems fully replaces the Medical Transcription.

The process of natural language processing boosts the automatic transcription a little further, offering an interpretive function which the speech recognition can not provide alone.

Earlier, these reporting are of very short handwritten notes which were added in the file of the patients for the primary physician to interpret who is responsible for the concerned patient's treatment. Finally, this heap of typed reports and handwritten notes were consolidated into one patient file and physically kept alongside a number of other records of patients at the medical records department in a wall containing filing cabinets. In case, the records of any specific patient is required, the file of the concerned patient would be recovered from the filing cabinet and handed over to the physician who requires it. In order to heighten this manual process, most of the medical record documents were created in duplicate or triplicate in the process of carbon copy. Some of the traditional medical transcription is a type of document formulation which the medical industry regards outdated, but is very much essential as a means of offering the required documentation necessary to satisfy insurance and regulatory provider requirements. The use of Modern Medicine prescribes that the physicians expend maximum time attending to the needs of the patients than forming documents so that they can meet the financial ends. Thus, the Medical transcription practiced now-a-days helps in this regard very much.
