Throat is one of the most important parts of our body. Throat is actually a tube which carries the food the food that we eat by the mouth to the esophagus and air to our windpipe and the larynx. Technically throat is known as pharynx. Different types of diseases occur in the throat and its surrounding areas and affect the smooth operation of the body. Most of the throat diseases that lot of people suffer from generally occur due to viral infections and mainly affect during the winter and monsoon when the temperature remains low and the atmosphere remains damp. Though most of the major throat diseases are easily curable by medication, but if treatments is not started early, some of theses diseases lead to severe consequences, even death.

Sore throat is actually a stage when a person suffers from discomfort and scratchiness in the throat and often complains about pain. One of the biggest problems that sore throat creates it makes swallowing of foods very painful. In most cases sore throat occurs due to viral infections. Often blisters occur in the throat during late summer and early fall which is caused by Coxsackievirus. Besides mono and flu also encourage viral infections that lead to sore throats. Though sore throat is not a very critical and long lasting problem, sometimes it leads to rheumatic fever. Drainage patches on the throat, inflamated lymph gland and neck, mild stomach pain and headache are symptoms of rheumatic fever which is caused from sore throat.
Pharyngitis or the inflammation of the Pharynx is also one of the major throat diseases . Pharyngitis is generally caused by different types of microorganisms like adenovirus, mononucleosis and HIV. Strep throat is considered to be a major encouraging factor for the occurrence of Pharyngitis. Symptoms of Pharyngitis include rheumatic fever, bacteremia, streptococcal toxic shock syndrome and kidney dysfunction. Speaking about major throat diseases, one must not forget to mention about throat cancer. Known in other names like vocal cord cancer, laryngeal cancer and cancer of the glottis, throat cancer is the most fatal throat disease which generally occurs due to excessive intake of tobacco and alcohol.
