Cancer is one of the most well known terms all over the world. Cancer is a term that creates panic and fear among people within a second. Though medical science is developing day by day and researchers are inventing new medicines, cancer is still the biggest threat to the life of human being. Malignant tumors grow from cancer cells that break from the main cancer tumor in any part of the body and then replicate and flows through the blood vessels to all other parts of the body. That is why detection and prevention of the growth of the main cancer tumor at an early stage is very important and that is the main duty of an oncologist. Once a cancer affected person comes for a treatment it becomes the responsibility of an oncologist to diagnose the disease, applying the therapeutic procedures like surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and doing regular follow ups of patient after successful treatment.

At present, there is a huge demand for oncologists all over the world because the percentage of people suffering from cancerous diseases are rising rapidly and is likely to increase more in the coming years. Lot of medical professionals are taking up oncology as their subject to work on and are performing successfully. To become a professional oncologist one needs to complete his or her graduation in medical science from an accredited medical school or institution. After getting the degree a student of medical science needs to undergo training as an internist or pediatrician and subspecialist like medical oncologist or pediatric oncologist or hematologist. After completion of training a medical professional can concentrate on any of the special streams of oncology like medical oncology, gynecological oncology, hematology, pediatric oncology, radiation oncology and surgical oncology.
